We can ship anything within the US, and most items internationally. There are a few exceptions due to excessive size, and some countries require use of FedEx International because their mail systems have proven unreliable.
Shipping costs depend on each package’s contents, weight, size, value, and distance from us to you. We use the US Postal Service, UPS and FedEx services, and ultimately the choice depends on cost, delivery time and handling. You let us know your needs, and we’ll figure out your options.
MEDIA MAIL is the cheapest way to send sheet music, books, CDs and DVDs but nothing else (like cello strings) can be in the package. Delivery time will be faster the closer to you are to SC but can take over 10 days if you’re in California or comparable distance. If time doesn’t matter and money does, this is a good option.
1ST CLASS MAIL is only an option if your parcel weighs 13 ounces or less. Small accessories like rosin, mutes, strings, some music may be sent this way. It’s the cheapest, faster than media, and delivery time depends again on distance from SC.
PRIORITY MAIL usually takes 2-3 days to reach anywhere in the US but it is not a guaranteed service. When appropriate, we take advantage of their flat rate mailers. This can be a real savings on some sheet music orders . ($5.95 and over)
EXPRESS MAIL is guaranteed overnight service to most cities in the US if mailed Mon-Fri. ($20 and over)
If the value of the package is high, a signature is required for protection against lost or damaged goods. We will discuss this with you in case you need to provide an alternate address.
UPS and FedEx offer date-specific delivery with tracking. The closer you are to SC, the faster you will get your package -- often in 1 to 2 days. It takes 6 business days to reach California. We use UPS and FedEx for larger or heavier packages because their rates or services are better than the post office.
As you can see, shipping is complicated. It’s why we ask for your postal code and special delivery needs when you contact us. We assemble your order and package it for safe transit, weigh and measure it to get your time and cost options.
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS are usually sent Global Priority (6-10 days with delivery confirmation), Global Express (3-5 days with delivery confirmation) or FedEx. For Canadian orders we may use UPS. Some countries’ mail systems have proven problematic and we will warn you at the time you order. Keep in mind packages need to clear customs so overnight services are not available. Occasionally we use regular air mail for small orders if the customer is willing to accept risk of loss or damage. Parcels must be under 4 pounds. This is the lowest rate, but may not be suitable given the value of contents.
