Cello Dampit Dampits can be an effective and safe means to humidify your cello if used properly. It consists of a perforated piece of rubber tubing housing a sponge core. When this is moistened, BUT NOT DRIPPING, it is inserted into the cello's F-hole where the moisture can slowly evaporate, releasing moisture for your cello. There is a wide rubber ring which prevents the Dampit from falling inside the cello. Check regularly, as cold winter air and heating systems will quickly dry out the Dampit, and then your cello. Water damage inside your cello can result if you don't adequately remove excess water. Dampits do not have to be removed from your cello when playing. $11.00

Planet Waves Humidifier Planet Waves LC (large case) humidifier is installed in your cello case with adhesive-backed velcro. The plastic case houses a foam packet which slow-releases moisture into your cello case, maintaining humidity around your instrument. The plastic syringe should be filled with water, and injected into the hole until the internal foam is fully moistened. No special replacement foam is required, but use of distilled water is recommended. Refill time will depend on climate conditions, but average is 1-2weeks. You may want to also get the hygrometer so you know the humidity in the case and when to refill. The photograph shows the front and back of the unit, and the syringe. $15.95

Oasis Case Humidifier Oasis keeps your cello humidified by slow release of (preferably distilled) water from a cylinder with a fabric center, leak-proof screw top. Extremely strong magnets are built into the Oasis so you can easily attach it to an adhesive-backed metal strip which mounts in your cello case. As moisture leaves the tube no air can get in. The vacuum created collapses the tube so you can easily see when it needs refilling. A plastic yringe is provided for refill. The compact cylindrical design means you can place this where other systems won't fit. The tube is 4 inches long, 1 inch in diameter. Planet Waves Hygrometer The Planet Waves Humidity and Temperature Sensor is a precision-designed hygrometer that digitally indicates accurate relative humidity levels ranging from low (under 20%) to 99%. The sensor can be programmed to a set point and has a memory feature indicating date/time of the extremes the instrument has been exposed to. Water drop icon indicates when extra humidification is needed. $35.95

Stretto Humidifier Stretto's system to maintain constant humidity inside your cello case includes crystalline packets in a perforated plastic case. By activating the crystals with water (preferably distilled for longer lige), the packet puffs up and then slowly releases moisture around the environment of the cello. The down side is repurchase of crystal packets will be required over the life of the unit, but the good side is you have to babysit the unit less often than other case humidifiers. The packets can keep working for a few weeks, depending on the specific cold/dryness of your climate. $40.00
